It was an honor and privilege to be invited to photograph the BEEAH Headquarters, an architectural marvel designed by the legendary Zaha Hadid Architects. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Sharjah desert, this striking building is a fusion of futuristic design and sustainable innovation, seamlessly blending into its surroundings.
Capturing the Essence of Architectural Mastery
The building’s design takes inspiration from the natural movement of sand dunes, with flowing, interconnected forms that appear sculpted by the wind. The soft curves and organic geometry create a dynamic sense of movement, presenting a unique challenge and opportunity for architectural photography. Light and shadow interact beautifully across the building’s fluid façade, and capturing these moments was key to bringing out the essence of its sculptural elegance.
Inside, the space is divided into two distinct wings – one dedicated to the Beeah Group’s public and management departments, and the other housing its administrative zone. These areas are seamlessly connected by a stunning central courtyard, which Zaha Hadid Architects describe as an “oasis within the building.” This architectural feature not only enhances natural ventilation but also provides a serene focal point, which we captured in a way that emphasises its light-filled openness and connection to nature.
One of the most breathtaking aspects of the design is the 15-metre-high domed foyer, a space designed to harness natural light while maximising ventilation. Photographing this area was a study in how light transforms architecture – the soft glow filtering through the dome created a play of light and shadow that accentuated the depth and scale of the space. Our images aimed to capture the interplay between light, materials, and structure, highlighting the bold vision and intricate detailing that make this project a masterpiece.
More than just capturing a building, the challenge was to tell the story of how this space is meant to be experienced. The vast, open interiors, the fluid circulation of space, and the carefully designed transitions between indoor and outdoor environments were all key elements we wanted to emphasise in our imagery. Through thoughtful composition and expert use of perspective, we ensured that each photograph not only showcased the beauty of the structure but also conveyed the atmosphere, purpose, and functionality of the space.
