Commissioned to shoot the new stunning hotel at pre-opening stage, Mandarin Oriental Downtown Dubai marks a new chapter of urban luxury, positioned within the striking new Wasl Tower on Sheikh Zayed Road. Designed by UNStudio with interiors by GA Group London, the property brings Mandarin Oriental’s signature calm, precision, and contemporary elegance into the heart of the city.

As one of the world’s leading hotel brands, Mandarin Oriental continues to redefine luxury through design, service, and sensory experience. Every property expresses its local setting with subtle cultural resonance, and the new Dubai hotel follows this philosophy with architectural distinction and crafted restraint.

Our involvement with Mandarin Oriental is long-standing. Alex is no stranger to pre-opening hotels and certainly no stranger to the Mandarin brand, having photographed the pre-opening of Mandarin Oriental Muscat, and supported Mandarin Oriental Jumeira over the last few years with an extensive image bank refresh aligned to Mandarin Oriental’s 2025 brand guidelines. This established partnership made our approach to the Downtown Dubai project both intuitive and informed.

As a professional hotel photographer based in Dubai, the focus was to translate Mandarin Oriental’s ethos into imagery that feels timeless, balanced, and alive with subtle detail. Every photograph was created to reflect the brand’s devotion to light, materiality, and atmosphere, from the sculptural façade of Wasl Tower to the serene interiors that frame Dubai’s skyline.

Our role extended across architectural and interior photography, showcasing the synergy between structure and hospitality that defines Mandarin Oriental’s design language. The collection of final images now forms part of the property’s brand assets, supporting global marketing, digital campaigns, and Mandarin Oriental’s evolving visual identity across the region.

This project strengthens our continued collaboration with one of the most prestigious hotel groups in the world and reinforces our position as a trusted photography partner for luxury hospitality and architecture across the GCC.

This project was both a technical and creative milestone, combining the intensity of a pre-opening environment with the precision demanded by one of the world’s most exacting hotel brands. It reaffirmed the importance of collaboration, trust, and preparation in producing work at this level. From concept to final delivery, the shoot reflected the shared commitment between photographer and client to achieve imagery that not only meets brand standards but elevates them.

Working with Mandarin Oriental once again was a privilege, a continuation of a valued relationship built on understanding, consistency, and shared pursuit of excellence in hospitality photography.

The Challenge

Photographing Mandarin Oriental Downtown Dubai came with a series of precise, pre opening challenges. With much of the property still in its final stages of fit out, every image required careful coordination between departments, brand teams and contractors to ensure completed areas could be captured without disrupting ongoing work. Timing and patience were essential, as each space needed to be photographed at exactly the right moment.

The shoot also took place during the peak of the Dubai summer, which meant exterior work and natural light had to be planned around intense heat and fast daylight shifts. Maintaining consistency across interior and exterior scenes required controlled exposure, balanced lighting and a steady, efficient workflow.

Working with a brand as respected as Mandarin Oriental brought its own level of expectation. Every frame had to meet global standards and reflect the brand’s philosophy of calm, refined luxury. The challenge was not only technical accuracy, but ensuring the imagery aligned with the brand’s visual language and reputation on an international level.

The Brief

Mandarin Oriental Downtown Dubai required a complete pre opening shoot to build its image library ahead of launch. As a flagship within the new Wasl Tower, the photography needed to meet the brand’s 2025 visual guidelines and position the property among the most anticipated openings in the region. Every image was expected to reflect Mandarin Oriental’s values of calm, precision and understated luxury while capturing the architectural presence and contemporary spirit of Dubai.

We were commissioned to create a full set of images for brand, marketing and media use, building on our established relationship with Mandarin Oriental through earlier work in Muscat and Jumeira. This experience allowed us to approach the assignment with a clear understanding of the brand’s visual language and expectations.

Working closely with the hotel’s marketing and pre opening teams, we developed a focused shot plan covering architecture, interiors and lifestyle details. The aim was to deliver a cohesive collection that translated Mandarin Oriental’s refinement into a modern Dubai setting, highlighting the materiality, balance and quiet elegance that define the brand.

The Results

A full collection of images was created and delivered across all key areas of the hotel, following the approved pre opening shot plan. The work covered guest rooms and suites, lobby spaces, restaurants, spa and wellness areas, with each image composed and retouched to meet the brand’s 2025 visual guidelines and ensure tonal consistency and accurate representation of the design.

The process was carried out in close coordination with the Mandarin Oriental brand and marketing teams at on site, regional and global levels. The final set was approved by the brand and recognised for its refinement, balance and technical clarity.

The imagery positions Mandarin Oriental Downtown Dubai as a major architectural addition to the city and a new benchmark in contemporary hospitality. Each photograph reflects the brand’s restraint and sophistication, presenting the hotel as both luxurious and quietly human in atmosphere. All images were delivered with detailed metadata and AI ready descriptors to support long term visibility across search, press and brand platforms. The final collection now serves as the visual foundation for Mandarin Oriental’s marketing, PR and launch communications.
