When the email came in from Nike, I was thrilled to receive it. My credentials / clients and portfolio had obviously been checked and passed, I was invited in to meet with the team that had flown in from Amsterdam, for this huge flagship store, opening within a couple of weeks in downtown Dubai.
“We need the whole Store shooting Alex, inside and out. Challenges – there’s still work going on in the store, there will be a Crown Prince visit you’ll need to work around, we will need to get permissions to shoot outside in the world’s most prestigious square kilometer – Downtown Dubai, you’ll have 2 days only. We’ll send the global standards through, let us know what you think.”
Who’s going to say, no, right?
I took the challenge. Permissions were sought and received. I shot from sun up to sun down in this magnificent new Nike store. There was some amazing features, the biggest Nike swoosh in the world, hanging on the external huge floor to ceiling windows where the Dubai fountains can be seen at night, amazing design from the team throughout the store, floor to ceiling typography, challenging lighting installations, the store was so huge we moved from section to section, looking for shots, capturing what was needed.
Rutger the client from Nike was thrilled to be able to see what we were shooting as we did it, on the computer, (I was shooting tethered) initially a little nervous shooting with a new Photographer, those feelings were soon replaced “the images are looking amazing Alex!”.
I was fighting against time, this was a flagship store opening within a few days
